A short blast about 1 sec.
Under way in restricted visibility a vessel should sound one long blast every 2 minutes.
In clear visibility a vessel:
Intending to turn to starboard should sound one short blast
Intending to turn to port should sound two short blasts
Engaging astern propulsion should sound three short blasts
5 or more short blasts means: ‘your intentions are not clear I do not believe you are taking sufficient precautions to avoid a collision’.
I thought you would like to know that.
